Miceli Team Launches TripShow at Startup Weekend Stamford

Startup Weekend is an intense 54-hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business. The weekend brings together people with different skill sets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.

This weekend March 30 – April 1, 2012, Mike Miceli and his brother Jason Miceli are attending Startup Weekend Stamford at the Stamford Innovation Center to develop their new app TripShow. TripShow automatically pulls all your photos and videos together and then segments them according to location and time frame. It can add dynamic music based on the type of trip and creates title slides showing each day and location of the action, all automatically. TripShow will even add “motion maps” showing where you went and mix them with your media. Just choose your trip’s date range and presto – a story-driven video masterpiece!  Turn your mobile device into a virtual videographer.

When shooting on location producer Michael Miceli swears by the “freaky” footwear specially developed for endurance athletes by Vibram FiveFingers.  We recently snapped a production shot of Michael wearing the shoes while working with our camera crane.

Looking at the website for Vibram FiveFingers is like peaking into the secret world of obscure sports…barefoot waterskiing, geocaching, technical tree climbing, paddleboard surfing.  In the minds of everyone at Miceli Productions HD we agree filming on location actually fits well into that list!  Cheers for happy feet!

In The Studio with Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock, legendary film director, known for his unmistakable personal silhouette and use of shadow in film noir (not necessarily in that order) is the inspiration of the latest TV commercial in our studio. Hartford Stage’s upcoming production of “Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps,” adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maxwell Williams, provided Miceli Productions HD with an opportunity to be inspired by the visuals of Hitchcock’s films and create original digital media with the current cast at Hartford Stage.

Michael Miceli worked with actors Robert Eli, Steven French, Christina Pumariaga, and Noble Shropshire to create original photographs with iconic murder mystery silhouettes and scenes.  Combining this original digital photography of the actors, creating silhouettes in Photoshop and animating these images into HD video, we were able to create an original TV commercial spot paying homage to Hitchcock but 100% representative of this production.  View the TV commercial below.  For more background on Alfred Hitchcock, spy novels and adapting “The 39 Steps,” check out Hartford Stage’s new online version of Stage Notes.

MOTORCYCLE POKER RUN 2010: Help feed hungry children and see your feel good smile reflected in the chrome

Miceli Productions HD has long been active with Every Dollar Feeds Kids, a local non-profit organization that provides food assistance to impoverished children in Hartford, Mexico, and Ecuador.  Of the many fund-raising events organized since 2002, the Motorcycle Poker Run is at the top of the ‘Don’t Miss’ list.  Where else do amazing motorcycles and great food (sponsored by the local Southington Outback Steak House) come together to feed hungry children?

Michael Miceli will be on site volunteering digital photography to bikers who have the option to purchase the photos, with all proceeds going to EDFK. As Treasurer, Jennifer Blessing Miceli will also be on site, helping man registration and keeping everyone focused on fund-raising.

On SUNDAY, AUGUST 29, 2010 the 3rd Annual Every Dollar Feeds Kids Motorcycle Poker Run will be held at the Wolcott CT American Legion on 1155 Wolcott Rd. Wolcott, CT 06716. Registration will be from 10 am to 11:30 am with coffee and refreshments.  $20 per rider and $15 per passenger – walk-ins and all types of bikes are welcome!  This event is family friendly with activities for the kids.  Children under 10 are FREE.  Non-rider tickets buy a great buffet picnic lunch provided by Southington’s Outback Steakhouse!  Music, vendors, raffles and FUN!!

The Future of Audio and Video at Hartford Stage Company

As audio supervisor at Hartford Stage Company, Michael Miceli interfaces with guest designers for productions (occasionally designing himself) and oversees all audio and video system repairs and upgrades.  With the $11 million renovation of Hartford Stage breaking ground (May 26, 2010) Michael breaks down what the renovation means for the future of audio and video at HSC.

Out with Analog: In with Digital

“We are replacing legacy analog cabling with all new digital (CAT 5 and 6) cabling.  All audio and video will be digitally distributed throughout the entire venue by plugging into a central system.”

All speakers upgraded to Meyer Sound Lab self-powered systems

“These guys make speakers that are highly efficient, spread the heat load and are extremely reliable.  Meyer is top-grade for theatrical sound.”

New Yamaha PM5D Sound Console

“This is the heart of the new digital system – processing and distribution will be more streamlined with much higher capacity.  Capacity comes into play with major musical productions such as HSC’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch rock opera and ELLA.”

“The new system includes SMQV transmitters, DPA lavs, and Venue receivers.  All of which are high end, robust, water-resistant, and known in the movie industry as the leader for wireless audio.”

“This is where the renovation investment continues to pay off down the road.  Patching systems will be more reliable and easier to implement.  With the new digital infrastructure future upgrades will be seamless.”

Interference Rejection System Upgrade

“Digital systems keep audio pure. Radio Frequency (RF) noise in the air is ‘rejected’ to keep the sound coming to and from stage clear.”

Expanded ALS (Assisted Listening Systems)

“This greatly increases Hartford Stage’s ability to service communities with different audio needs including hearing and visually impaired audience members, as well as offering real time translation.  Up to 100 simultaneous users can have their audio amplified through T-Coil hearing aids or headphones provided by the theatre.”

Pre-renovation upgraded gear will be repurposed

Daddy Long Legs: Working with Composer Paul Gordon

There are many compliments one can get in theatrical sound design, but few mean as much as being asked back to work with a great team.  Tony-nominated Broadway musical composer Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre) and Music Director Laura Bergquist worked with Miceli Productions‘ Sound Designer Michael Miceli on the 2009 production of Emma and will be working with Michael again on the upcoming world premiere of the musical Daddy Long Legs. Based on the Jean Webster novel by the same name and directed by John Caird (Les Miserables, Jane Eyre), Daddy Long Legs opens for previews at Cincinnati Playhouse March 13, 2010 and runs until April 10, 2010.  This is the third time Michael has been invited back to Cincinnati Playhouse and in response to his working with Mr. Gordon and Ms. Bergquist again he says, “I’m excited to work with Paul and Laura again; we had a great time on Emma.  I love Paul’s work – his style of music and the sensitivity of his material.  Partnering with and supporting the creative team has been my pleasure.”
