How much will a video production cost me?

Miceli Productions HD is a boutique studio that fully scales to the unique needs of your project. But we do also understand wanting to get a good sense about project cost up front. In our experience, a completed local TV commercial will typically cost between $1500 and $7500. See this blog article for more information on different levels of TV commercials and their related expense ranges. Other types of videos vary based on a lot of factors. A 3-minute gala promo video might range between $2500 – $5000, while a 12-minute fundraising video can range between $5000 – $7000. These are typical, but many factors can effect the final cost. Does your project need an original score with live musicians or can we use royalty free music instead? Do you need motion graphics or 3D animation? Do you want a notable or famous spokesperson?  Does you budget support professional actors or local actors?

A video production is an investment, and we strive try to help you find ways to maximize this investment. A TV commercial can have a finite life on television, but can also be re-purposed as an embedded web video, included as part of an e-newsletter campaign, and posted on your blog and social media. During our work with you, we will help you create a growing library of footage and materials that can be used in other projects. Moving forward it becomes very cost effective to create alternate versions of your project.

Some of the elements of a typical video budget:

•Pre-production •Scripting •Shooting Days •Travel •Camera and Lighting Gear •Animation •Graphics •Narration •Actors •Set Design •Editing •Props

All projects have different requirements. Date-to-completion will be determined largely by the complexity of your project. Simple web videos can oftentimes be completed in 6-8 weeks or less, whereas documentary films can take 12 to 15 months. If this is your first project with us, the process may take longer than subsequent ones while we learn your company’s philosophy and gather your corporate materials for the first time. As a client you can minimize the processing time by limiting the number of people involved in the approval process, making sure there is a professional subject matter expert (SME) at each shooting location and budgeting enough pre-production planning time to adequately prepare for the project.

Is producing a video in HD worth it?                                                                                   Back to Top

Yes! Today, shooting and editing in HD is no more expensive than standard definition was 5 years ago. A corporate video shot and edited in HD can easily be down-converted to a standard definition DVD or compressed for web streaming. As more boardroom, training centers and web-streaming sites upgrade to be HD capable, you can re-release your video on Blu-Ray or upload higher resolution versions.  Even YouTube will now play videos at HD quality, dynamically, using a viewers highest connection speed. Another thing to remember: every time you have a video produced, all the original camera footage can be a valuable asset for future projects – especially if it’s HD. Keeping a library of your original footage can maximize your production dollars.

What can I do to get the best results?                                                                                    Back to Top

First, clearly articulate your expectations to your producer. Everyone who has say in the final product should be included in that first production meeting. Based on what is discussed in that meeting, we will then provide you with a script treatment, preliminary draft script or storyboard.

Review the treatment and read it carefully. Pay attention not only to the script language, but also the “visual” side of page. Once filming begins, changes will not only slow the production process, they can potentially result in significant cost overruns. Make sure everyone is on the same page and the process will be streamlined and rewarding.
